If news reporters were all on the government payroll, we could say good bye to freedom of the press.

Even though it is against the law for agencies of the Federal government to pay for favorable news coverage, the Department of Education paid $241,000 to a conservative commentator to push the beauties of NCLB to unsuspecting audiences who (falsely it turned out) thought they were getting the man's opinions and perspectives untarnished by anything like bribery.
