Kenneth Kitts, Ph.D.



Dr. Kenneth Kitts is associate provost and professor of political science at Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina.

A native of the North Carolina mountains, Kitts attended public schools in Haywood County prior to entering Appalachian State University. At ASU he received his BA and MA in political science. In 1995 he earned the PhD in political science at the University of South Carolina.

Kitts's research and teaching interests focus on executive power and national security policy. He is the author of Presidential Commissions and National Security: The Politics of Damage Control (Lynne Rienner, 2006), as well as numerous book chapters and articles.

During his time at Francis Marion University, Kitts has progressed in rank from instructor to full professor. In 2003 he received the University's Distinguished Professor award. He also chaired the Department of Political Science and Geography for two years prior to his appointment as associate provost.
