Karen Joslin

In her fourteenth year in public education, Karen Joslin is currently the Reading Specialist at C.T. Overton Elementary School in Salisbury, North Carolina. At various times in her career she has also been a fifth grade classroom teacher, and a technology specialist for the Rowan Salisbury School system.

In addition to teaching children, Karen has worked with Innovative Learning Group and has been a Thinking Maps and Write From the Beginning... Trainer for her LEA. She has also presented several workshops on the inclusion model of instruction and on Thinking Maps at the North Carolina Reading Association's Spring Conference. Additionally she has presented a session on building a successful school wide program at the North Carolina Association of Compensatory Educators fall conference in 2002.

Karen is a graduate of Catawba College. She holds certificates in K-5 general education and K-12 Reading. She has plans to pursue her National Boards in Reading during the 2004-2005 school year.

This spring two of Karen's poems about children are going to be published by The International Library of Poetry.
